28. Dec. 2009 >

Nils Petter Molvaer has written the score to a brand new TV series (three episodes) on NRK about the dramatic year of 1905 when Norway decided to break out of the union with Sweden and asked the Danish prince Carl to become the king of Norway. The series is called “Harry & Charles” and can be viewed on NRK Nett-TV (http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/ ) now.

NPM’s score has been arranged for orchestra by Brede Rørstad and is performed by The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (http://www.nrk.no/informasjon/organisasjonen/kringkastingsorkestret/3430654.html ).
NPM is also credited as playing “various instruments”.

7. December 2009 >

This week David Sylvian’s SamadhiSound just sent these news:

“Jan Bang releases his debut album with us in 2010. '...and Poppies from Kandahar' is marked by Jan's amazingly acute ear for sound design and his ability to create and sustain delicate, but powerfully evocative, moods of sonic and textural complexity. Some of you might be familiar with Jan's remix work for David Sylvian in collaboration with his Punkt partner, Erik Honoré. This team was also responsible for co- writing / producing Arve Henriksen's 'Cartography' (ecm). '... and poppies from Kandahar' could be seen as something of a companion piece to the latter featuring, as it does, contributions from Henriksen, Jon Hassell, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset and many more.” (mg)

23. Nov. 2009 > Nils Petter Molvaer posted in his myspace-blog:
So.... last gig in Budapest on the 20.th of nov. Then home...,exept Stian Westerhus who went directly to a 10 days solotour in Japan!?! He´s still young.
The tour has been great fun,and very uplifting from a musical perspective.
After a few gigs,we found a form where we played the whole concert without  any stops.
Challenging and vulnerable ,but when it worked...it worked very well.
So I wanna thank the audiences for their input and support. You´re great.
I hope you people enjoyed it as much as we did.
all the best: Nils Petter

"Nordic Jazz Fest, hosted annually by the embassies of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, has become Nordic Jazz Week for 2009, featuring an opening performance at the Embassy of Finland on Sunday, June 14, and then two nights of performances at the House of Sweden on June 16-17.
Of note in the lineup are Norwegians Nils Petter Molvær & Arve Henriksen, who are pioneers in the peculiar kind of jazz/electronic/ambient music crossover that labels like Rune Grammofon (to which Henriksen is signed) are currently exploring. These two play as a duo on June 17, probably my most highly anticipated set of the festival" (nn)

  >   MIC (music information centre norway) published a NPM feature online:
http://ballade.no Some "highlights" from the interview above (kindly translated by jont)::
- NPM wanted the new album to be more open, more played and less programmed.
- He recorded all the concerts he played last autumn. He also did some field recordings from different places, and recorded some music at his parents' loft during christmas. NPM, Eivind Aarset, Jan Bang and Johnny Skalleberg did a 3 day trip to a cottage where they recorded sketches and ideas. The result is what NPM describes as a "sound pool" that he could build upon. There are still several terabytes of material from this process that he hasn't used.
- The album is mixed in Tromsø, Norway by NPM and Jon Marius Aareskjold. Aareskjold is part of the production team Espionage, which have worked a lot with pop and r&b artists like Rihanna. Also ex Tungtvann (Norwegian hip hop band) DJ and producer Lars "Poppa" Audun Sandness has been assistant on the mixing.
- When asked about his own musical development, he says that he tries to be as emotionally precise as possible without being pretentious. "I don't want to play a lot of stuff that doesn't lead anywhere, but have a clear direction in what I play. But other than that, it's quite difficult for me to say something about the development from album to album, because I don't listen very much to my earlier albums."
- NPM is going to create music for a mini series for Norwegian television. The series is called "Harry & Charles" and is supposed to be aired around christmas of 2009. For this music he is going to use a symphonic orchestra, which he thinks will be quite a challenge. The series takes place in the year of 1905, so the music will have to sound like it could have been written at that time. He wants to find a mix between more modern stuff and the symphonic orchestra (jtu)
