made a special investigation on NPM's filmography.
see first results in discography section at bottom

>

Ole found there a NPM interview and has translated selected delicacies for us:
- NPM tells that he's a little disappointed that Streamer was almost ignored in Norway.
  Despite great reviews around Europe.

- He tells that there's much work behind that release, and that the songs are
almost like new after
having been played on many tours.
- He also explains the magic of playing live, with the interaction with the audiences.
- He says he enjoys letting other people make remixes of his songs.
- He says that: "Good music is the one that comes from the heart, which is genuin and delievers the real
feelings. A person immediately understands what good music is, in the same way that one with the bad
music is being overwhelmed with "plastic", falseness and a foolish/silly kind of music".
- He continues: "In many ways it is all about not letting the commercial aspect become predominant
over the artistic and the creative".
- He thinks downloading music is ingenious. But he can't understand that people want to download music
for free, and in the next moment pay 25NOK for a ringing tone for the mobile. Why not pay 10NOK
for a song that costed maybe 100.000NOK and a lot of creativity? Copyright and owning his own
music is the reason why he changed record-label a few years ago.
- He left ECM to get control over his own music. He liked ECM, but when they denied to give licence to
use his music on the"Cafe del Mar"-collection, without asking NPM, he felt it was very wrong.
- Asked about attending a dream-gig no matter time/place he startled: "Maybe Stevie Wonder in
Drammen 1981 which was amazing, or Jimi Hendrix in a small club or Led Zeppelin when they were on
their height?" "No, I would be on the 3rd bench on a Billie Holiday-concert or why not Miles and his
band in 1969. Even if these people were high absolutely everything available, it would have been an
  amazing musical experience"
- Q: "Who would you have preferred to play with? Free choice."
He answered: "To be honest: Today I play with the people I would most like to play with". he continues:
"But if Joni Mitchell or Brian Eno were within reach, I wouldn't have turned down an offer... "

a norwegian TV site with an article about NPM including a link 'siek ut Molvaers bootlegs her' (!). heroes Ole & Michael made a rough translation:
Molvær straight home

Nils Petter Molvær has a gang of enthusiastic fans that puts out concert-tunes on a website almost before they are played to the end. but Molvær belives that electronic downolads are the future.
Under Photo:

NPM has planned both film and theater music + his new album ‘Streamer’ + a tour.
Electronic possibilities

the title is not a casual choice. Molvær is excited about the future for electronic downloads and sees it as a good opportunity to spread the music thorugh new channels. as long as people pays for it, of course. I am very provoced by the big music-shop chains often only offers what sells at the moment, he says.
Streamer points the changes a tune goes through after severeal live recordings. on the cd the tune ‘Solid Ether’ has got a new wrapping (mood-wise) of DJ Strangefruit.
this is where the jazzelement is in the music we do. popmusic is more like classical music, where the build (composition) is more firm/structured, says Molvær
large landingfield (as where a bomb or a comet crashes)

the tumpeter has fans all over the world, and often experiences to be reviewed in british and american musicmedia before he gets reviews at home.
the german fans on molvaer.de are special. the page is almost daily updated with a accuracy that impresses him for all the attention.

french movies
that he has fans in many countries he discovered when a french filmcreator phoned and asked hiim to make the music for the film ‘Requiems’ with among others, Phillipe Noiret in a main character.  The filmcreator had heard Molværs music while he wrote the manuscript.
Molvær admits that he watches films a lot, and that he can recognize that his music can be 'filmic'.  actually the Citadel de La Musique in France wants him to record and interpret his film-music favorites. but this must eventually be after he has made sound on Riksteaterets version of Gjengangerne (engl. ‘ghosts’, german: ‘Gespenster’ - a play by Henrik Ibsen) .
I wanted to do this for a long time, but to play for people is my my 'main focus'.  this is where the lifegiving energy comes for me, he says to TV - net paper.

I'm sure you remember some 'unknown songs' on NPMs this year tour. I simply have asked him and he wrote back: "... the song between GASPER and HURRY SLOWLY is just an improvised interlude to hurry slowly, an intro so to say, based on a an orchestrasample wich Jan Bang brought in.
the little song in the end is an old standard tune called NATURE BOY...
" .
additional info: the song between 'Gasper & Hurry slowly' Jan & me decided to call 'INTERLUDE TO HURRY SLOWLY', and the small 2 minute NPM solo encore 'NATURE BOY' is written by Ehden Ahbez, performed first by Nat King Cole. so update your tracklists :-)

are you wondering about some strange venue names like NHH, USF, Sardinen ?
'northman' Ole illuminates these locations in Bergen, Norway for us:

USF is an old factory that has been turned into a house of culture. It was a tin-factory, where they mainly produced tin-cans of sardines etc. It was called "United Sardines Factory"
One concert hall is where they used to put the sardines into the cans, so therefore it's called
Sardinen
(The sardine). About 200 seats, I guess.
Another is Rökeriet. That's where they smoked the fish.
Smoke in norwegian is "rök" or "röyk".
This is bigger, I think 500 people standing.
NHH is short for Norges Handels-Höyskole. The norwegian school of
economics. A very famous school, which you need VERY good grades to attend. They have a very active student-club. They arrange cultural weeks, bierstube (yes, they call it that, located in a tent, and the beer is flowing, almost like Oktober-fest), cabarets and many concerts. There are two concert-halls. The big one is called "Aulaen", which is where NPM played during the schools cultural week of 1998
( Uken 98, which means
"the week 98"). Aulaen takes approx 1500 people standing.

...and the winners are ...
'pölypussi' - "np3 rmx_nils petter molvaer" and 'AirCut' - "white, orange and blue".

read more about the 2002 Marrow Remix Contest (in german) and see the tracklists of unbelievable
72 (in words: seventy-two) remixes in unofficials section. NPM summarized to all competitiors:
Dear all,
I´m overwhelmed by the response to this remix competition. There came in apx.90 mixes and it was almost impossible to choose a "winner". In any case...music is not about competition. It´s about finding your own voice and using your esthetic filter to create the music you want to hear. This is a process that "hopefully"never stops. When I ended up with these two mixes as winners it has to do with timing, how the samples were used, and a musical flow wich I can relate to (and a killer bassline in Aircut´s mix). There are at least 20 mixes that could have won, but in the end these two were chosen.
I wish you all the best, and good luck in the future. Regards, Nils Petter Molvaer

NPM composed and performed the soundtrack of Stratosphere Girl, kind of an independent thriller movie. screenplay & director M.X. Oxberg, 85 min, germany 2003. shown on Berlinale Film Festival. public cinema start in germany on 2004-09-09. trailer here. german review:

„Das unterkühlte und zugleich fesselnde Spiel von Newcomerin und Ex-Model Chloé Winkel, die hypnotischen Jazz-Klänge von Nils Petter Molvaer und die eindringlichen Comic- und Film-Bilder verdichten sich gemeinsam zu einer düsteren und doch unbeschwerten Vision über das Erwachsenwerden, die Macht der Fantasie und das Eintauchen in eine fremde Kultur.“

added some “memories” from the fuerth gig this year in pics section …

Marcello attended the Rome show on 2004-06-28 and wrote:
” ..t
hey started with a techno jam... don't know if it was a tune from the upcoming album (he announced it but didn't mention about release date). Qvenild and Bang were absolutely on the spot adding more psychedelic noises and obsessive grooves. Then a ballad and some (probably) new tunes.

The style was the same as always with the wide use of soundscapes, lyrical Trumpet lines. But what impressed me most was that they jammed a lot after starting the tunes. The only ones which were from the previous albums were Vilderness and Platonic Years. But unrecognizable: a great re-arranging,

basic tracks totally changed, often the rythm patterns were different too…”
